ZEEL might drop channels from Tata Sky due to non-signing of agreement
MUMBAI: Broadcaster ZEEL has issued disconnection notice to direct to home (DTH) operator for non-signing of the subscription agreement.
In a public notice, the broadcaster has stated that its channels will not available to Tata Sky customers 21 days from the date of publication of the notice.
ZEEL owns, operates, and distributes 54 channels across entertainment, movies, news and lifestyle genres in English, Hindi and regional languages. This includes 14 channels from the Zee Media stable.
The disconnection notice is generally issued by a party when the negotiations fail.
Tata Sky, on the other hand, is a leading DTH platform in the country after Dish TV/Videocon d2h combine with 25% share of the active pay DTH subscribers market of 67.53 million.
Early August, IndiaCast Media Distribution had also issued a disconnection notice to Tata Sky due to non-signing of agreement on behalf of TV18, Viacom18, Turner International India and Eenadu Television.
IndiaCast has a bouquet of 68+ channels including 17+ HD channels spanning across various genres including general entertainment, kids, news, music, infotainment, and movies in India.
It is learned that Tata Sky has moved Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) against the disconnection notice.
