ZEEL cuts a-la-carte price of six GECs to Rs 12 as part of festive offer

MUMBAI: Leading entertainment broadcaster ZEEL has slashed the MRP of its six leading general entertainment channels to mark its 27th anniversary. As part of the Festive Bonanza Offer, the a-la-carte price of Zee TV, Zee Marathi, Zee Bangla, Zee Telugu, Zee Kannada and Zee Sarthak has been reduced to Rs. 12 per month from the present Rs. 19.

The move comes at a time when the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is reviewing the new tariff order (NTO) in the wake of consumer complaints that their monthly TV bills have gone up under the new regime. The TRAI has accused the broadcasters and distribution platform operators (DPOs) of misusing the freedom given to them under the new regime.

The TRAI has also stated that the broadcasters are resorting to heavy discounts to push bouquets to the consumers. This, the TRAI argued, defeats the purpose of providing choice to the consumers. The broadcasters have, of course, denied the TRAI’s allegations stating that the majority of consumers prefer bouquets of their own free will.

The All India Digital Cable Federation (AIDCF) had earlier told the TRAI that it will provide 150 SD channels at the same network capacity fee (NCF) of Rs 130. The move is expected to help consumers save Rs 40 on NCF.
