ZEE5 to premiere its original show ‘Kaafir’ on 15 June
MUMBAI: Zeel’s OTT platform ZEE5 will premiere its new show –‘Kaafir’ on 15 June. The show will also mark the digital debut of Dia Mirza, who will be playing the lead role.
‘Kaafir’ portrays the journey of a mother, a young Pakistani woman who is unable to go back home. Amidst all despair, she finds hope when a lawyer, played by Mohit Raina, makes it his mission to help her.
Kaafir is written by Bhavani Iyer, directed by Sonam Nair and produced by Siddharth Malhotra.
“Kaafir is a powerful human story inspired by a true one. I was deeply moved by it. The theme of the show resonates with me at a personal level. I chose to tell this story on a digital medium like ZEE5 for the reach it deserves”, says Dia.
The platform released the trailer of the show on YouTube. “Amid the sprawling border of our country, begins the journey of a young Pakistani mother who comes into India under a strange series of circumstances and is unable to go back home. The show revolves around the relationship between this woman, who is accused of militancy, and her lawyer who makes her justice his sole objective. Will his mission and her dream ever come true?” it tweeted.
Dia’s helplessness, fear, anguish and the love for her daughter shines through in the trailer, and she effortlessly showcases all this solely through her eyes. Dia got under the skin of her character Kainaaz and wanted to understand how it truly felt to lose freedom. She worked with acting workshop director – Atul Mongia which helped her layer the many emotions required to play this role.
