Zee Kannada becomes top GEC in Karnataka U+R market for first time in 13 years

MUMBAI: ZEEL-owned Zee Kannada has emerged as the Kannada GEC leader for the first time in its 13-year history. The channel has broken the stranglehold of genre leader Colors Kannada.

As per the recently released BARC weekly data (Urban + Rural) for the first week of the year 2019, Zee Kannada has claimed the top position in the Kannada market with a total of 41.56 crore impressions including 17.11 crore impressions in the urban market and 24.4 crore impressions in the rural market.

Colors Kannada has dropped to the second position with 39.17 crore impressions followed by Udaya TV (23.69 crore impressions), Udaya Movies (16.8 crore impressions), and Star Suvarna (13.6 crore impressions).

The top 5 table was dominated by Colors Kannada with four shows while Zee Kannada had just one show.

The channel claimed that it saw robust growth across its prime-time fiction shows. Zee Kannada also stated that it has been the leader for the last 12 weeks in the urban market. However, this is the first time it has become number one in the U+R market.

Zee Kannada said it has secured 26.03 crore impressions in its prime-time band, with its top shows including Yaare Nee Mohini, Paaru, and Brahmangantu. The channel has also secured leadership position across its prime-time slots in the Non-Fiction shows such a SRGMP15 and Drama Juniors 3.
