Zee Classic curates a special line-up of movies for Dilip Kumar’s 95th birthday
MUMBAI: Hindi movie channel for classic films Zee Classic will celebrate India’s first superstar Dilip Kumar’s 95th birthday with a day-long film fiesta on 11 December.
The channel has curated a special line-up of Dilip Kumar’s evergreen hits. The day will kick-start with Devdas, one of the best performance of Dilip Kumar, which will be aired at 5.30 am.
It will be followed by two back to back episodes of Zee Classic’s special series Classic Legends at 9 am. Writer-cum-story teller Javed Akhtar will reveal some unknown aspects of the legendary actor’s life.
Next, on the list is Ganga Jumna written and produced by Kumar will be aired at 12.15 pm. It features real-life brothers Kumar and Nasir Khan in the title role and is the story of two brothers, Gunga and Jumna, on the opposite sides of the law. The film also stars Vyjayanthimala, and is best known for Helen’s item number ‘Tora Mann Bada Paapi’.
Nutan and Kumar’s first movie together – Karma will be aired next at 3.30 pm. The movie also features an ensemble cast comprising of Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Sridevi and Anupam Kher. Karma is a thrilling story of revenge by a jailor who trains three criminals to kill the villain Dr. Dang. Karma also features the popular patriotic song ‘Aye Watan Tere Liye’.
Having taken a sabbatical from films, Kumar returned to Bollywood with Manoj Kumar’s 1981 epic historical drama Kranti which will be aired at 7 pm. The film consisted of a stellar supporting cast featuring actors Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Parveen Babi, Sarika, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri, Paintal and Pradeep Kumar. The film is set in the 19th century British India and is the story of independence from the British from 1825 to 1875.
Wrapping up the festivity at 10.30pm will be the super hit movie Sauagar which also stars Raaj Kumar and Vivek Mushraan. In true Subhash Ghai style, Saudagar aims to be larger-than-life coming together of two heavyweights – Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar – playing the proverbial friends turned foes.
