Zee Cinema set to premiere Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar starrer ‘2.0’ on 21 April

MUMBAI: Hindi movie channel Zee Cinema is all set to premiere Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer ‘2.0’ on 21st April at 12 noon.

‘2.0’ is a cautionary tale about the March of the Machines. The sequel to the 2010 blockbuster superhero movie features Rajinikanth in a double role as Dr. Vaseegaran and his trusted robot Chitti and Akshay Kumar as a mutant ornithologist Pakshi Rajan. Essaying equally important and crucial roles are Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey, Adil Hussain, Kalabhavan Shajohn, and K. Ganesh.

With a whopping box office collection of over Rs. 600 crore, ‘2.0’ is a movie where humans take a backseat and the plotline is driven by mutants and machines a.k.a robots.

‘2.0’ takes off from where its prequel ‘Robot’ ended. 8 years after Chitti was dismantled due to the destruction he caused, Vaseegaran has created new human-robot Nila which can understand human feelings better. Suddenly, the cell phones in the city start to disappear from everywhere. This leads Dr. Vaseegaran to suggest reinstating the dismantled Chitti to the city’s council.

But due to a difference of opinion, the decision is inconclusive. With an increase in the number of absurd incidents taking place in the city, the Home Minister approaches Dr. Vaseegaran and gives him permission to rebuild Chitti. With a task in hand and the world counting on him, Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti begin their research. They learn that that the bird is powered by the aura of a human being, which radiates negative energy and ultimately finds out that Pakshi Rajan is the source.

Speaking about the role, Akshay Kumar said, “2.0 is a mega movie and the first in my career. While I try to explore different roles, I genuinely felt that this would be a completely different ball game. It rightly proved to be so. In all my years of being a part of the industry, I have never seen so much money, talent, and technology work together from different parts of the globe to make a film of this magnitude.”

The channels newly adopted philosophy ‘Seene Mein Cinema’ will reflect in the 360-degree marketing plan that will engage the audience across various mediums – Television, Print, Outdoor, Digital, and Radio. The 20-foot gigantic face-off installation of Chitti and Pakshi at Juhu Beach, Mumbai will not only garner eyeballs but also be the talk of the city. With Chitti’s red LED eyes and Pakshi flapping his wings throughout, the superhero look and feel will only be enhanced.

Additionally, on the OOH front, key sites in the metros will see unique signages and 87 bus stands in Maharashtra and Goa will play the promo for 8 days in addition to the 3D projection in malls and multiplexes. A special message from Pakshi will also be seen doing the rounds. With innovative and interactive projections across all platforms, Zee Cinema is going all out to promote the biggest premiere of the year.
