Tata Sky hits back at ZEEL with a disconnection notice
MUMBAI: Direct to home (DTH) operator Tata Sky has hit back at ZEEL by issuing a disconnection notice. Earlier, the broadcaster had issued a public notice stating that Zee channels will be pulled out from Tata Sky due to non-signing of the agreement.
The Tata Sky notice stated that the ZEEL and Zee Media channels will be removed from the platform 15 days from the date of publication of the notice due to failure of mutual understanding to renew the agreement.
The notice also added that Big Magic and Big Ganga will cease to be on the platform 21 days from the publication of the notice due to non-renewal of agreement.
The ZEEL notice will become effective within 21 days from the date of the notice.
ZEEL owns, operates, and distributes 54 channels across entertainment, movies, news and lifestyle genres in English, Hindi and regional languages. This includes 14 news channels from the Zee Media stable.
Tata Sky, on the other hand, is a leading DTH platform in the country after Dish TV/Videocon d2h combine with 25% share of the active pay DTH subscribers market of 67.53 million.
Earlier, IndiaCast Media Distribution had also issued a disconnection notice to Tata Sky due to non-signing of agreement on behalf of TV18, Viacom18, Turner International India and Eenadu Television.
IndiaCast has a bouquet of 68+ channels including 17+ HD channels spanning across various genres including general entertainment, kids, news, music, infotainment, and movies in India.
Tata Sky has moved Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) against IndiaCast’s disconnection notice.
