Star Plus looks to reclaim Hindi GEC leadership with new prime-time shows

MUMBAI: Hindi GEC Star Plus is hoping to reclaim the leadership position in urban HSM by strengthening its prime-time with two new shows. As part of a strategic move, it is also shifting its tentpole show ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ to the late prime-time slot.

Come 21 May, the channel is launching two new shows ‘Mariam Khan – Reporting Live’ and ‘Krishna Chali London’ in 7.30 pm and 9 pm slots respectively.

The channel is shifting Balaji Telefilms produced ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ to 10.30 pm slot. Earlier, the show aired in the 7.30 pm slot which will be taken over by ‘Mariam Khan – Reporting Live’.

‘Krishna Chali London’ will replace Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Naamkarann’. The show, which debuted in September 2016, marked Bhatt’s TV debut.

The channel had recently launched a new show ‘Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala’ from 19 March in the 8.30 pm slot. It had also launched slapstick comedy show ‘Har Shaakh Pe Ullu Baithaa Hai’ from 26 February at 8 pm.

Currently, the channel’s prime time starts at 6.30 pm with ‘Ikyawann’ and ends with ‘Ishqbaaz’ at 10 pm. Following the launch of the new shows, Star Plus’ weekday prime-time original programming hours will go up to four hours from the current three and half hours.

Currently, the channel’s programming features shows such as ‘Ikyawann’, ‘Tu Sooraj Mein Saanjh’, ‘Piyaji’, ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’, ‘Har Shaakh Pe Ullu Baithaa Hai’, ‘Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala’, ‘Naamkarann’, ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ and ‘Ishqbaaaz’.

Mariam Khan – Reporting Live produced by Somersault Productions, is the story of 8-year-old girl, Mariam, where she sees life through her own unfiltered lens. The show is based in the lanes of Bhopal with a Muslim backdrop.

Whereas, Krishna Chali London produced by Saurabh Tewari is a story of Kanpur boy Radhe who is a romantic at heart and is in search of his love. Instead of being career oriented like other boys of his age, Radhe has always nurtured a dream, of getting married since childhood.

Radhe is a 9th fail and has no ambition or career goals and will go to any lengths to fulfill his would-be Mrs.’ dreams and keep her happy. He believes that he has got everything in life – a good family, good friends and a comfortable life, and once he finds his Mrs., his life will be complete.
