SPNI to replace Sony Ten Golf HD with Sony Marathi HD
MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) is planning to shut down the only dedicated Golf channel in India Sony Ten Golf HD. The Golf channel will be replaced with Sony Marathi HD.
The broadcaster had launched Sony Marathi, its first full-fledged regional GEC, on 19 August. Sony Marathi HD will be priced at Rs 16 under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) new tariff regime. Ten Golf HD was priced at Rs 35 on a la carte basis.
“The channel Sony Marathi HD is proposed to be launched in lieu of TEN Golf HD,” the broadcaster said in its RIO document.
The Golf content will move to the company’s digital platform SonyLIV to cater to the niche audience. Sony had got Ten Golf as part of its acquisition of Ten Sports Network from ZEEL in August 2016.
Ten Golf was launched in March 2012 to tap into the premium segment who watched Golf. The sport is popular amongst corporates and high net worth individuals.
Ten Golf was re-launched as an HD channel in October 2015. The channel featured a mix of live, non-live and feature programming.
Sony Marathi offers a mix of fiction, non-fiction, and movie content. It has a line-up of 11 shows including nine fiction and two non-fiction shows. The channel has also built a library of 100 movies which will be mostly aired on Sunday.
The fiction shows include ‘Julta Julta Jultay’, ‘H.M. Bane T.M. Bane’, ‘Saare Tuzhyach Sathi’, ‘Ti Phulrani’, ‘Duniyadari Filmy Istyle’, ‘Year Down’, ‘Bheti Laagi Jeeva’, ‘Hrudhyat Vaje Something’, and ‘Garja Maharashtra’. The non-fiction fare includes ‘Maharashtracha Favorite Dancer’ and ‘Maharashtrachi Hasya Jatra’.
