Sony partners with PVR to screen UEFA Champions League final on big screen across five cities

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has partnered with multiplex chain PVR Cinemas to screen the UEFA Champions League final live on the big screen across five cities in India.

Football fans in Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, and Chennai can watch the UEFA Champions League final live on the big screen. This is the second such initiative by the network. Earlier, SPNI along with WWE had hosted special screenings of WrestleMania 35 in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata in partnership with PVR.

SPNI will telecast the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and the final on Sony TEN2 and Sony TEN2 HD channels. The semi-finals will be aired on 8th and 9th May 2019 while the final match will be televised on 2nd June 2019. All three matches will be telecast at 12.30 am.

“Collaborating with PVR is part of our marketing initiative. The idea is to massify the whole thing. The collaboration will give an opportunity for fans to watch the league on the big screen. We did the same thing for WWE Wrestle Mania with PVR. It was a huge success and now we are doing it for UEFA Champions League as well this year. Watching it on a large screen with sound effects, it magnifies the whole thing,” said Sony Pictures Networks India Chief Revenue Officer, Distribution and Head- Sports Business Rajesh Kaul.

The network has associated with actor Farhan Akhtar who will be heading to watch the finals at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain on 1st June. Kaul further stated that the UEFA Champions League has witnessed a 79% growth over the previous season.

The tournament experienced a considerable jump in viewership and we have seen a 79% growth over the previous season which is a testament to its popularity. We are delighted to associate with UEFA’s official guest from India, Farhan Akhtar, whose passion for sports has inspired millions,” Kaul stated.

Sony Pictures Sports Network also launched the ‘My Reason to Watch UEFA Champions League’ campaign. The campaign captures the enthusiasm and passion of various kinds of fans, ranging from fanboys to peripheral football viewers who profess their reasons for watching the most prestigious club competition in the world, the UEFA Champions League.

To further enhance the viewing experience for audiences, the sports network will also feature a ‘UEFA Champions League Studio Show’ with a host of expert panellists presenting in-depth pre, mid and post-match analysis.

Kaul said, “Our wraparound programming has been hugely appreciated by the audiences and we are planning to have the wrap around for semi-finals and finals also with good experts, starting one – one and a half hours before the live action starts. We people are genuinely appreciating.”
