Sony cuts off satellite feed to MSO Manthan over unpaid dues
Mumbai: Sony Pictures Network (SPN) cut offs satellite feed to Kolkatta based multi system operator (MSO) Manthan over unpaid dues.
Around two lakh cable homes that get their satellite television feed through Manthan missed watching FIFA World Cup 2018 as the Sony channels went off the Manthan platform.
SPN withdrew its channels in the middle of the World Cup match between Spain and Portugal that took place on June 15. The decision of cancelling the feeds was said to be taken following the unpaid dues. According to the sources, Manthan owes Sony close to Rs 11crore.
Rajesh Kaul, President Sports and distribution business, confirmed stating that they have disconnected the satellite feed of all Sony’s channel on Manthan.
This decision had a severe impact on Manthan subscribers as they witnessed channel blackouts during the high profile match. However, to appease it, subscribers, several Manthan cable operators pirated Sony Ten 2 channel’s signal from DTH. Manthan operators re-allocated channel 81 to Sony Ten 2 and 82 to Sony Ten 3, which were earlier 608 and 609 respectively.
We tried reaching to Manthan officials but they remain unavailable for comment. This is not the first time this year that Manthan has defaulted. Star India too had disconnected feeds to Manthan during IPL matches over unpaid dues this year.
