MUMBAI: The three-day technology trade event for the cable and satellite industry Scat 2018, which kicked off today, has seen an 8% growth in exhibitor participation. This year 200+ exhibitors will be participating in the tradeshow.

The event will have exhibitors from 18 countries USA, China, Canada, Taiwan, UK, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Singapore, Korea, Spain, UAE, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Russia, Sweden, Argentina, and Turkey.

“We expect 8% more companies to be exhibiting. The focus will rest on digital cable TV, broadband and OTT solutions. We are all anxiously awaiting the Supreme Court judgement on the Star vs TRAI matter which is expected soon,” Satellite and Cable TV magazine editor Dinyar Contractor.

He also noted that with Jio buying Den and Hathway there will be a renewed impetus for wired broadband delivery throughout India. “This is going to be a thrust area and the LCOs of Den and Hathway will be used to deploy wired broadband on an all India level. Given the all-India focus on broadband cable operators already operate their own broadband network. Many of them are looking forward to investing a larger amount of funds and improving and growing their networks. Now there is a huge demand for this.”

According to Dinyar, the over the top (OTT) space is the emerging area of activity. OTT will double revenues in the coming four to five years. “It is a very high growth area. Vendors will offer OTT solutions to cable networks and MSOs which would provide them custom brand OTT services which they can deploy to their customers. These are being offered at very attractive prices. For instance, you could be looking at a price of Rs. 15 per subscriber a month. It will help cable networks provide a level of visibility which would equal DTH platforms or even large MSOs who have invested large amounts.”
