Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur collaborate to co-produce social thriller ‘Pihu’
MUMBAI: Former UTV colleagues Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur have joined forces once again to co-produce ‘Pihu’, which is slated to release on 3 August.
Both Srewvala and Kapur have set-up their own production houses RSVP and Roy Kapur Films respectively. At UTV Motion Pictures, Screwvala and Kapur had produced films such as Dev D, A Wednesday, Rang De Basanti and Barfii.
Directed by national award winner Vinod Kapri, Pihu is a story of a 2-year-old girl who is being left alone in an apartment. The film is based on a true story and is the only film in the history of our cinema to have just one character which will be played by the 2-year-old child.
The social thriller was officially selected for international film festivals such as Vancouver, Palmsprings, Iran, Morocco, Germany. The film went on to win “best film” in Morocco Film Festival. It was also the opening film at International Film Festival of India, Goa (2017) where it received rave reviews.
Kapur said, “It’s always thrilling to come across directors who want to tell stories that disrupt the status quo using bold new narrative styles. Pihu is a film that has you on the edge of your seat all through, with a 2-year-old child as the sole protagonist! It is a towering directorial achievement by Vinod and we look forward to bringing it to audiences very soon.”
Screwvala said, “PIHU is a unique film. Thrillingly Real. Imagine 90 minutes of a spellbinding experience, can easily be a True Story and yet it tugs at your heart at all times.”
Vinod Kapri said, “I am still pinching myself that I could complete this film Pihu. It was almost an impossible film. In the beginning, my dear friend Late Kirshan Kumar trusted my dream and Pihu was born. Later the way Sid and Ronnie adopted Pihu, it’s no lesser than a fairy tale for me. I’m glad that Pihu is now safe and in the hands of those who understand cinema in its true sense.”
Ronnie Screwvala’s production house RSVP believes in presenting content-driven films and has a slate of films set to release in over the next 12 months. The slate includes titles such as Kedarnath, Sonchiriya, URI and Karwaan to name a few.
Roy Kapur Films (RKF) is a film and digital media production house founded by producer Siddharth Roy Kapur. RKF produces movies and digital content across scales and genres and has various projects in the pipeline, including a biopic on Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian in space.
Siddharth Roy Kapur is also the President of the Producers Guild of India and recently featured on Variety’s global list of 500 most influential leaders in entertainment.
