Reliance’s Jio TV app offering 600+ live TV channels
MUMBAI: Telecom operator Reliance Jio live TV streaming platform Jio TV’s channel offering has crossed the 600 mark. Currently, Jio TV is offering 621 channels which is more than what any cable TV or direct to home (DTH) platform is offering in India.
News and entertainment channels form a bulk of Jio TV’s offering. The platform has 193 news and 122 entertainment channels. Devotional and education are the third and fourth largest genres in terms of offering with 50 and 49 channels respectively.
The platform’s movie, music, and sports channel offering stand at 49, 41, and 37 channels respectively. It also offers 35 infotainment and 27 kids channels besides 10 lifestyle and eight business news channels.
In terms of languages, Hindi forms a bulk of the offering at 181 channels followed by English (119), Telugu (62), Tamil (60), Malayalam (32), Kannada (31), Gujarati (30), Marathi (22), Bengali (22), Punjabi (18), Assamese (13), Odia (12), Bhojpuri (9), Urdu (8), French (1) and Nepali (1).
Jio TV is offering 136 HD channels which includes entertainment (39), sports (26), devotional (12), movies (18), infotainment (18), music (8), news (7), kids (3), lifestyle (3), educational (1), and business news (1).
English and Hindi languages have the highest HD channel offering at 46 and 32 respectively followed by Tamil (11), Punjabi (11), Telugu (10), Malayalam (7), Kannada (6), Marathi (6), Bengali (4), and Gujarati (3).
Jio TV, which is free for Reliance Jio customers, has 100+ million downloads on Google Play Store. It has content deals with all major broadcasters including Star India, Sony Pictures Networks India, ZEEL, Sun TV Network apart from its own TV18-owned channels.
Another popular app from the Reliance Jio stable is the Jio Cinema app which offers 6,000+ movies, 120,000+ episodes, 70,000+ music videos besides exclusive web originals from platforms like Eros Now, and ALTBalaji.
According to a recent Strategy Analytics report titled ‘Reliance Jio Targets Digital Content Leadership’, Reliance Jio is planning to charge its subscribers for using these apps. The telco is developing a freemium model for the two apps.
