Pro Kabaddi S5 highest rated non-cricket event on TV, claims Star
MUMBAI: Broadcaster Star India has claimed that its sporting property Pro Kabaddi season 5 has become the highest rated non-cricket event on television.
At the end of Season 5, gross impressions for Pro Kabaddi stands at 3.3 billion with a watch time of 100 billion minutes. The tournament followed a stellar opening in Hyderabad and travelled across 12 cities before the finale in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab Haryana Chandigarh (PHCP) regions witnessed significant increase in viewership with Tamil Nadu being the most successful new market with a 3.6x growth in ratings
The sporting league was aired on Star Sports network, including the recently launched FTA channel Star Sports First, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Tamil, in Kannada on Star Suvarna Plus, in Telugu on Star Maa Movies.
“India has truly embraced kabaddi. This season was all about pushing boundaries. With an expanded league, there were 12 teams competing in more than 130 matches, spread across 13 weeks. The love for Kabaddi cutting across geographies and demographics is self-evident. It is very heartening to see this response from millions of fans across the country, which has emphatically re-established Kabaddi’s position as the most watched non-cricket sport synonymous with the Pro Kabaddi League,” said Star India MD Sanjay Gupta.
Pro Kabaddi 5 had nine sponsors and partners including Vivo (title sponsor), TVS, Bajaj Electricals, Mutual Funds, Gillette (associate sponsors), and Nissin, Royal Challenge, RR Kabel, and Ultratech Cement (official partners).
