Prasar Bharati earned Rs. 3.27 lakh through monetisation of archival content on YouTube
MUMBAI: Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has earned approximately Rs. 3,27,376/- through the monetisation of archival content on YouTube.
Prasar Bharati has informed that approximately 35000 hours and 38000 hours of recordings of AIR and DD respectively including those of maestros have been preserved in digital format in the Prasar Bharati Archives.
The collection of rare music recordings of maestros are on sale through PB Archives’ own website – https://archives.prasarbharati.org and through 3rd party e-commerce sites.
Additionally, the pubcaster has earned approximately Rs. 1,94,165/- between 1st April 2019 to 31st October 2019 through its partnership with e-commerce major Amazon. In May, public broadcaster Doordarshan had launched an online souvenir store in partnership with Amazon India. DD Souvenir gallery was started on 21 June 2018. The online store sells branded articles like cups, T-shirts and water bottles.
“Prasar Bharati has informed that they have tied up with e-commerce site Amazon and have earned approximately Rs. 1,94,165/- between 1st April 2019 to 31st Oct 2019. The Archives content is also monetized through “YouTube” Channel since 01st March 2017 and approximately Rs. 3,27,376/- has been earned so far. The monetization of archival contents is as per the recommendations of Sam Pitroda Committee,” I&B minister said in the Lok Sabha.
The Amazon partnership made Doordarshan India’s first broadcaster to start a souvenir store. The pubcaster believes that the online souvenir store will not only strengthen the relationship with viewers but also help in establishing Doordarshan brand value.
It also noted that the souvenirs will also introduce DD’s memorabilia to the younger generation as the channel of India. DD also believes that the online souvenir store will help to re-establish the brand value of Doordarshan as ‘The channel of India’.
