Prakash Javadekar allocated I&B min portfolio in new NDA govt
MUMBAI: Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar has got the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry portfolio in the newly formed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Javadekar is also part of the union cabinet.
The I&B ministry portfolio is in addition to the Environment, Forest and Climate Change ministry portfolio that he has received. Javadekar was the environment minister in the previous NDA government as well. He had also served as the I&B minister in the previous government.
Former I&B minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has been dropped from the new government. He also held the sports and youth affairs portfolio in the previous NDA government.
It is pertinent to note that Javadekar was made the I&B minister when Narendra Modi-led BJP stormed to power in 2014. Soon Javadekar was replaced by the then finance minister Arun Jaitley.
Subsequently, the ministry witnessed three new faces with M Venkaiah Naidu, Smriti Irani and Rathore serving as I&B ministers. Irani was appointed following Naidu’s election as Vice President of India.
After Irani, Rathore was the made the I&B minister in May 2018. He continued as the I&B minister till the end of the tenure of the previous NDA government.
24 cabinet minister, nine ministers of state (independent charge), and 24 ministers of state were sworn in on Thursday by President Ram Nath Kovind.
