News genre sees humongous viewership growth in week 12 due to COVID-19 lockdown

MUMBAI: The news and business news categories have grown by a humongous 298% and 180% in week 12 of BARC ratings. Most channels have more than doubled their weekly impressions as people remain glued to TV screens to catch on the latest developments as far as the COVID-19 pandemic is concerned.

In urban + rural HSM, Aaj Tak recorded highest ever viewership of 53.2 crore impressions followed by ABP News (34 crore), Zee News (33.73 crore), News18 India (30.5 crore), and India TV (29.63 crore).

In urban HSM, Zee News jumped to second position pushing India TV to fifth spot. News18 India and ABP News moved up by a rank to third and fourth positions respectively.

News18 replaced India TV in the top 5 table for rural HSM.

BBC World News has entered the top 5 channel list in the English news genre while NDTV 24×7 moved out of the list. Republic TV’s weekly impressions stood at (19.62 lakh) followed by Times Now (13.75 lakh), India Today Television (11.9 lakh), CNN-News18 (8.4 lakh) and BBC World News (5.6 lakh).

In the English business news genre, CNBC-TV18’s weekly impressions stood 7.71 lakh followed by ET Now (2.37 lakh) and CNBC-TV18 Prime HD (0.4 lakh).

Hindi business news channels Zee Business and CNBC Awaaz also recorded significatn viewership growth.
