Netflix acquires digital rights of Discovery’s animated series ‘Little Singham’

MUMBAI: Discovery Communications India has sold the digital rights of its local original animation show ‘Little Singham’ to streaming giant Netflix.

The company had recently licenced the streaming rights of Discovery Jeet’s original content to Netflix. The deal will ensure that the content is consumed by the global audience.

“For Little Singham, we have got Netflix as a digital partner. Netflix has acquired all the episodes of the series,” said Discovery Communications India senior vice-president and general manager-South Asia Karan Bajaj.

Discovery has commissioned Reliance Animation to produce the animated series based on Bollywood blockbuster ‘Singham’. This is the biggest investment done by Discovery till date in the kid’s original content in India.

Targeted at kids in the age-group 4-8 years old, ‘Little Singham’ will make its debut on TV in April 2018 on the completely revamped Discovery Kids channel. India’s youngest Supercop, with the intro line – ‘Police Ki Wardi, Sher ka Damm, Naam Hai Mera – Little Singham!’ is an apt representation of Discovery Kids’ brand purpose – Super Heropanti. Little Singham will be aired in four languages English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

In October 2017, the video streaming giant had partnered with Green Gold Animation to launch its first kids original animated series in India called ‘Mighty Little Bheem’. The 13-episodic series adventure comedy series will make its global debut on the platform in 2018 and will be targeted towards a pre-school audience. It is about a strong, brave and intelligent hero named “Mighty Little Bheem” traveling through his hometown on crazy adventures, often in search of ladoo.
