MIB unhappy with DAS implementation in North-Eastern states

MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has expressed unhappiness with the pace of cable TV digitisation in the eight North-Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

While addressing a meeting of the nodal officers and multi-system operators (MSOs) of North Eastern States in Shillong, I&B ministry joint secretary Mano Kumar Pingua said there is still some work to be done as far as completion of digitisation is concerned, The North East Today reported.

Giving out the details of set-top box (STB) seeding in the North-Eastern states, Pingua said that the STB seeding is 144% in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh while Nagaland it is 105%.

In Assam, the STB seeding percentage is 94% followed by Mizoram with 80%. Meghalaya’s STB seeding was just 69% while in Tripura it was only half complete with 49%. Manipur lagged behind in STB seeding with 29%.

While praising Tripura for pushing other government schemes, Pingua said that the state government has failed in the implementation of digitisation.

STB seeding, he said, is the first step towards digitisation as MSOs need to have subscriber management system (SMS) and grievance redressal system along with a toll-free number to provide seamless service.
