MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has clarified that all non-Hindi and non-English channels will be treated as regional channels for the purpose of charging the processing fee.

The channels which are imparting only Yoga and Spiritual Discourse will also be treated as regional channels for fee purpose only.

This order will come into force with immediate effect.

The clarification was a follow-up of the ministry’s order dated 13 December wherein it had increased the processing fee on account of the change of satellite, channel name/logo, the language of the channel, category of the channel, mode of transmission of channel, teleport and teleport location.

The fee for regional channels is Rs 50,000 while for national channels it is Rs 100,000. A similar fee will also be charged per channel per day from regional and national channels for temporary uplink of a live event.

“Accordingly, all concerned are required to pay the applicable processing fee as per above-mentioned order dated 13.12.2O17 online through Bharatkosh portal and send the challan generated through Bharatkosh Portal to enable this Ministry for further processing of their applications already submitted/ any fresh applications,” the ministry said in its order.
