MIB grants 11 new TV channel licences to three broadcasters
MUMBAI: The ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has granted 11 new TV channel licences to three broadcasters on 25th March. Viacom18 has received nine TV channel licences while Star India and Hare Krsna Content Broadcast have received one licence each.
All the 11 licences are in the non-news category for uplinking/downlinking.
Viacom18 has received the licences under the names BDM, Connected, Eco-Lution, Hawa Mahal, IMIX, My Tube, Pick-A-Trick, Story City, and Treble. Star India has received a licence under the name Star Gold 2 HD while Hare Krsna Content Broadcast has received the licence to launch Hare Krsna.
Broadcasters generally apply for licences under a dummy name. Depending upon the business plans, the licences are renamed through a name change application to the MIB.
