Malayalam GEC Flowers TV to go pay from 1 Oct with an MRP of Rs 10

MUMBAI: Suryansh Broadcasting-owned Malayalam GEC Flowers TV will be going pay from 1st October 2019. The channel will be priced at an MRP of Rs 10.

It is pertinent to note that Flowers TV was expected to go pay in the earlier TRAI regime from 1st April 2018. The channel had issued a public notice stating that it will be available at Rs 5.15 on reference interconnect (RIO) basis.

“We M/s. Suryansh Broadcasting Private Limited as the Broadcaster of the General Entertainment Satellite Television Channel “Flowers”, hereby informs the subscribers of this channel and the public in general that, with effect from 01st October 2019, the said channel shall be offered as a Pay Channel at the rate of Rs.10.00 (Rupees Ten only) per subscriber to all distribution platform/ operators across India,” the broadcaster has said in a public notice.

Apart from Flowers TV, Suryansh Broadcasting also owns and operates a Malayalam news channel ’24’, which launched on 8th December 2018. Suryansh Broadcasting is a subsidiary of media company Insight Media City, which also has interests in movies, FM Radio, events, education and digital.

Insight Media City plans to expand its operations in 2 phases over the next three years. The first phase would include setting up of a studio for ‘24’, purchase of cameras and other equipment at a total cost of Rs. 71 crore out of which, the company has spent an amount of Rs. 60 crore till August’18. The second phase would include the construction of Media College at a total cost of Rs. 95 crore, which would commence in FY20.

Insight Media City reported a net profit of Rs 48 lakh in FY18 against a net loss of Rs 21.24 crore in FY17. Total operating income jumped to Rs 70.14 crore from Rs 50.32 crore.
