Keshet secures five series deal with Sri Lanka’s ABC for ‘Rising Star’

MUMBAI: Global content producer and distributor Keshet International (KI) has signed a major licensing deal with Sri Lankan media network Asia Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for its interactive talent format ‘Rising Star’.

The series will premiere on ABC’s Hiru TV, which is Sri Lanka’s first and only digitally-enabled HD television channel.

Originally created and produced by Tedy Productions and Keshet Broadcasting, the format has been sold in over 35 territories worldwide – including India (Colors TV), Brazil (Globo), Indonesia (RCT1), China (CCTV), and Greece (Antenna) – with in excess of 200 million votes cast globally.

Keshet International Asia General Manager Gary Pudney said, “Rising Star has evolved the talent show genre across Asia, and we are delighted that Asia Broadcasting Corporation and Hiru TV will be bringing it to audiences in Sri Lanka for five full seasons. The success of formats like Rising Star, Prisoners of War and Girlfri3nds across the region has really helped us grow our presence here in Asia and we look forward to seeing many more Keshet International shows in the future.”

ABC chairman Rayynor Silva stated, “I am very confident that Rising Star would be a revolution in Sri Lanka and that it would be the first ever live singing reality show in the country and is confident that the format will take singing reality to the next level.

Rising Star’s inception marked a world first as the only talent show in which an unlimited number of viewers are able to determine the narrative in real-time. During each episode, home audiences decide who will advance in real-time via the show’s free voting app, while judges vote simultaneously in the studio.
