IPL 2018 saw 3X growth in social media conversations; CSK outshines other teams in social buzz

MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 was the buzziest tournament on social media while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was the dominant IPL team on social buzz.

Shattering all previous records, IPL 2018 garnered 16.7 million total conversations which 3X times compared to the previous edition. The final between CSK and Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) was the most talked about match generating 240k+ mentions.

Apart from winning the IPL 2018 trophy, CSK has also secured the no.1 spot on Social Buzz with 4.2 million mentions followed by Mumbai Indians (2.6 million), Kolkata Knight Riders (1.75 million), Royal Challengers Bangalore (1.58 million), SRH (1.36 million), Kings XI Punjab (0.88 million), Delhi Daredevils (0.8 million), and Rajasthan Royals (0.64 million).

Dhoni is the most popular player in this IPL season, followed by Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina.

Rashid Khan not only set the field on fire but also the Social Media Buzz meter, as he is the most popular Non–Indian player, followed by Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo.

Though Vodafone was not the official sponsor of this IPL, it still ruled the charts on social media followed by Vivo and Jio. The success of FANtastic Breaks contest has helped Vodafone garner maximum chatter, video views and likes & shares on social media.

Men far outshout the Women with respect to IPL conversations. Men drive 78% of conversations on social media about IPL.

An early elimination of team Delhi Daredevils did not hamper the spirit of fans from Delhi. They continued to show maximum support to the game.

#WhistlePodu and the newly coined #Yellove hashtags by Chennai Super Kings were the most chanted Team hashtags in the tournament.
