Indian broadcasters to present strong content line-up at MIP TV 2019

MUMBAI: Indian broadcasters will be heading to content marketplace MIP TV 2019 with a diverse content slate. Some of the key participants include Star India, ZEEL, and IndiaCast Media Distribution, the content monetisation arm of TV18/Viacom18. MIP TV, the international market for content development and distribution, will be held from 8 – 11 April 2019 at Cannes, France.

Viacom18/IndiaCast Media Distribution will be showcasing historical costume drama ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’, which tells the story of a commoner who evolves into the bravest, fiercest warrior queen.

Also on the slate is the family drama ‘Kesari Nandan’, an inspirational tale of a young girl who is a wrestling prodigy, while Gathbandhan is a romantic drama showcasing the love between two contrasting personalities: a cop and a gangster.

“Our series are a perfect blend of emotion, drama and variety,” IndiaCast senior VP and business head (syndication) Debkumar Dasgupta has been quoted as saying.

He adds, “After successfully making inroads into the Eastern European markets, CIS countries and Asian markets, we are now also available in the Caribbean, Turkey and African markets across both traditional and new-media platforms. Viacom18 has always been a pioneer in creating stories and has grown leaps and bounds on the back of engaging storylines.”

Star India’s content slate of MIP TV includes ‘Kasautii Zindagi Kay’ (Love Conquers All?) apart from drama ‘Radha Krishn’ which rooted in Indian mythology, has as its core theme unconditional love and devotion. The line-up also includes The Singing Star (Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala), a 7-year-old musical prodigy ventures out to find her estranged father.

Star India president distribution Gurjeev Kapoor has been quoted as saying that these are the two most anticipated dramas from our portfolio.

He adds, “Kasautii Zindagi Kay is a remake of Star India’s classic drama by the same name, and it is once again likely to transform the scale and popularity of Indian dramas. Radha Krishn is a costume drama based on the eternal love story of Radha and Krishna. The initial interest in both these shows from fans and broadcasters across the globe has been phenomenal.”

Global Content Hub by Zee, the syndication arm of ZEEL, will offer ‘Deceptive Measures’, the company’s second African co-production. The show is an adaptation of the Indian series ‘Pavitra Rishta’, which centers on a young middle-class girl who everyone depends on, yet no one seems to value.

Also on offer is The Relationship Conundrum (Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega) is the story of 20-year-old Guddan, who after marrying a widower suddenly finds herself a mother-in-law to three older daughters.

Cosmic Connection (Tujhse Hai Raabta) chronicles the bittersweet relationship between a daughter and her stepmother, who are forced to live together after tragedy strikes the family.

“Given the intriguing storylines and high production values, we believe these programs will travel worldwide either in their original or adapted versions,” Global Content Hub by Zee chief business officer Sunita Uchil has been quoted as saying.

“We are coming with our largest catalog ever, with over 260,000 programs in various genres, and also have a variety of formats to offer,” Uchil adds.
