IBF condoles demise of former I&B min Arun Jaitley
MUMBAI: The Indian Broadcasting Foundation, India’s apex body of television broadcasters, has condoled the demise of senior BJP leader and former Information and Broadcasting (I&B) minister Arun Jaitley.
Jaitley, who passed away at the AIIMS in New Delhi on 24th August, was cremated at the Nigambodh Ghat with full state honours on Sunday.
He has had two stints as India’s I&B minister. His first stint was as Minister of State for I&B from 13th October 1999 till 30th September 2000. His second stint was between 9th November 2014 till 5th July 2016.
“IBF (Indian Broadcasting Foundation), India’s apex body of television broadcasters is shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of Shri Arun Jaitley, former Finance Minister and MP,” IBF president NP Singh said expressing his profound grief and sorrow on his death and called the loss to the country ‘irreparable’.
“He will be remembered as a statesman and parliamentarian par excellence and a champion of free speech. We are deeply saddened by his sudden demise,” he added.
In a statement, IBF said it “salutes the statesmanship of Shri Arun Jaitley and acknowledges his immense contribution to the industry when he held the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting portfolio in the Modi government”.
It further stated that the vacuum caused by Jaitley’s death will be hard to fill and expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
