MUMBAI: Star India’s video on demand (VoD) platform Hotstar has launched a sports subscription service under which all live sports including Indian Premier League (IPL) will be available for an annual subscription fee of Rs 299.

Hotstar has partnered Airtel and Jio to provide the IPL live feed free. Non-Airtel and Jio customers will be able to see 10 minutes of live IPL free after that they have to either purchase the Hotstar All Sports Pack priced Rs. 299 a year or subscribe to Hotstar Premium to continue enjoying IPL.

It is pertinent to note that Star India had earlier stated that the IPL 2018 will be broadcast simultaneously on Star Sports and Hotstar. As per the new plan, subscribers will have to fork out Rs 299 for a year to watch the IPL live on Hotstar.

The launch of Hotstar All Sports plan has been timed with the IPL 2018 as the platform feels that IPL will help it get more subscribers.

Hotstar All Sports subscribers will get access to the entire sports portfolio of Star India.

This includes Cricket (IPL 2018, Asia Cup 2018), Football (Premier League, Bundesliga, I-League, Indian Super League (ISL), AFC Cup), Tennis (Wimbledon, French Open, US Open), Kabaddi (Pro Kabaddi, Kabaddi Nationals), and Others (Formula 1, Badminton World Championships).

The sports subscription plan is cheaper than the Hotstar Premium plan which is priced Rs 199 per month of Rs 999 a year. The Hotstar Premium includes latest American shows, latest episodes of Indian TV shows at 6 pm every day before TV, Hollywood blockbusters, and new Indian movie premieres.

Hotstar had debuted premium featuring Hollywood content in April 2016. The premium offering has since been beefed up with English Premier League (EPL) followed by other sports events.

Recently, the VoD platform had slashed the price of the premium offering. The annual subscription plan was reduced by 49% to Rs 1,200. The six-month plan was cut 25% to Rs 894 while the quarterly plan’s rate was dropped 16% to Rs 498.

The monthly subscription price of Rs 199 remains unchanged. A monthly subscription price of Rs 199 costs Rs 2,388 annually.

Hotstar claims to be India’s largest premium streaming platform with more than 100,000 hours of drama and movies in 9 languages, and coverage of every major global sporting event.

Star has set a target of reaching 700 million viewers through TV and digital. The event will be broadcast in six languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Telugu) on Star Sports network. It will also have a Super Fan Feed on Star Sports Select in English.
