Hotstar blocks Safari access to avoid unauthorised use of its platform
MUMBAI: Video on demand (VoD) platform Hotstar has blocked access to Apple’s Safari to mitigate a security flaw that allowed unauthorised usage of its platform, according to a TechCrunch report.
Sources at Hotstar told the digital news platform that the company’s engineers had identified a security hole that was being exploited by unauthorized users to access and distribute Hotstar’s content — including the premium catalog.
Hotstar intends to work on patching the flaw soon and then reinstate support for Safari, the source has been quoted as saying.
The report further stated that the security flaw can only be exploited through Safari’s desktop and mobile browsers. Hotstar has recommended its users to try Chrome and Firefox, or its mobile apps, to access the service.
