Hotstar beefs up news offering
MUMBAI: Star India’s video streaming platform Hotstar has identified sports as the fourth pillar of its growth apart from shows, movies, and sports.
After adding Republic TV, ABP News and Asianet News to its platform, the video on demand (VoD) platform has expanded its news content offering by tying up with not just TV channels but also digital content providers.
Hotstar has added TV Today Group’s digital channel News Tak. It has also added ABP News Network channels ABP Majha, ABP Ananda, and ABP Asmita. The platform has also beefed up its regional offering with TV9 Telugu and TV9 Kannada.
In the business category, the platform has added BTVI and BloombergQuint, which has already debuted on digital and is awaiting licence from the government to launch the TV channel.
Altogether, Hotstar has 13 news channels including Fox News, Fox Business, and Sky News.
It has also partnered digital news brand Scroll for a daily video news bulletin. Scroll’s video content is also available on the platform.
