Hindi GECs witnessed only eight show launch in May 2018
Mumbai: As Indian Premier League (IPL) attracted majority of viewership on television, it seemed like Hindi general entertainment channel had decided to go slow on the launch of any new shows in the month of May.
As IPL S11 approached its finale in May, the channels started introducing new content to their viewers. Hindi GECs like Star Plus, Colors, &TV, Zee TV and Star Bharat launched eight new fictional and non-fictional shows, spanned across different topics.
Zee TV was the only channel to launch non-fiction shows in the first half of the month. The channel expanded its weekend programming by two hours with the launch of talk show ‘JuzzBaatt….Sangeen Se Namkeen Tak’ and fictional series ‘Superhit’ on 5 May. The original programming hours of the channel for the weekend increase to 4.5 hours. While, ‘JuzzBaatt…Sangeen Se Namkeen Tak’ took 7 pm slot, it was followed by ‘Superhit’ at 8 pm.
JuzzBaatt….Sangeen Se Namkeen Tak’ is co-produced by Sol Production and Sandip Sikchand Telefilms. Hosted by Khandelwal, the comprised of 26 episodes. Khandelwal chats with some of the top faces from the television, film and sports fields. The candid chat show offers viewers a glimpse into the personality into the life of celebrity and their closest relationships, struggles, adventures, victories, and setbacks. Through this chat show, the channel aims to inspire viewers through the stories of celebrities.
On the other hand, ‘Superhit’ features actors from the channel’s on-going weekday shows in a new avatar. The show feature new stories from its existing shows every week.
ZEEL-owned second Hindi GEC &TV also launched a new show ‘Bitti Business Wali’ on 16 May every Monday-Friday at 7.30 pm. Produced by Raakesh Paswan, the show is about a young lady winning dignity with financial freedom.
Star Plus launched two new shows – Krishna Chali London and Mariam Khan-Reporting live on 21 May, six days before the IPL finale.‘Mariam Khan – Reporting Live’ and ‘Krishna Chali London’ airs at 7.30 pm and 9 pm slots respectively.
The channel shifted Balaji Telefilms produced ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ to 10.30 pm slot. Earlier, the show aired in the 7.30 pm slot which was taken over by ‘Mariam Khan – Reporting Live.’ ‘Krishna Chali London’ replaced Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Naamkarann’, which debuted in September 2016. The show marked Bhatt’s TV debut.
‘Mariam Khan – Reporting Live’ is produced by Somersault Productions. The show is about an 8-year-old girl, Mariam, where she sees life through her own unfiltered lens. The show is based in the lanes of Bhopal with a Muslim backdrop.
Saurabh Tiwari’s ‘Krishna Chali London’ is the story of Kanpur boy Radhe who is a romantic at heart and is in search of his love. Instead of being career oriented like other boys of his age, Radhe has always nurtured a dream, of getting married since childhood.
Star India’s second Hindi GEC Star Bharat also launched two new shows – Mayavi Maling and Muskaan. Created by Vivek Bahl and Peninsula Pictures, the thriller ‘Mayavi Maling’ was premiere on 1 May at 7 pm, replacing the channel’s existing show ‘Kaal Bhairav Rahasya’
The show boast visual effect created by internationally acclaimed VFX stalwart Prana Studios who has worked on renowned projects including the Game of Thrones and Thor : The Dark World. Set in a fantasy world, the show narrates a tale of finding strength within and standing up against even the mightiest of evils. The three simple human princesses of Maling are tasked with the grave responsibility of saving their prosperous and tranquil kingdom, when immensely powerful blue winged beings blessed with magical powers, threaten to capture their kingdom. Their quest to defend their beloved empire takes them on an enthralling journey filled with magic, adventure and self-realisation.
The second show Muskaan was aired from 29 May and took the 9.30pm slot. Produced by Rashmi Sharma Telefilms and directed by Dilip Kumar, Muskaan is about a little girl living her childhood, different from the usual. The story weaves various emotions and moments that Muskaan experiences, which feel different from the others of her age and a mothers roller-coaster to give her daughter a bright and a healthy future. The star cast includes Sonakshi Save as Muskaan and Ariena Dey playing the role of Muskaan’s mother as Aarti.
Colors launched one show Roop – Mard Ka Sacha Swaroop on 28 May at 9pm. Produced by Rashmi Sharma Telefilms, the show aims to shatter the stereotypes that revolve around men and women of the society. The show revolves around 8 year old boy Roop played by Afaan Khan who questions the sensitivities of the patriarchy society that decides how men and women ought to behave.
