MUMBAI: After a lull in August, new show launches on Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) gained pace in September. The month saw the launch of nine new shows – five fiction and four non-fiction – across five channels Sony Entertainment Television (SET), Colors, Star Plus, Zee TV and &TV.

There were four big bang launches including Bigg Boss (Colors), Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) (SET), Comedy Circus (SET) and ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’ (Star Plus).

SET brought back two of its anchor properties quiz game show KBC for tenth season and comedy series ‘Comedy Circus’ for a seventeenth season. ‘Comedy Circus’ came back after a hiatus of five years.

KBC S10 premiered on 3 September on the weekdays. Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, the quiz game show replaced SET’s two non-fiction shows ‘Dus Ka Dum’ S3 and ‘Zindagi Ke Crossroads’.

The latest season of KBC is co-produced by Big Synergy and Studio Nxt, the content production arm of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI).

Colors’ ‘Bigg Boss’ returned for a 12th season with a new concept ‘Vichitra Jodi’ (unique pairing). The show, which went on air from 16 September, saw a change in timing. The show now airs at the 9 pm slots in the weekdays.

In S11, ‘Bigg Boss’ aired at 10.30 pm through Monday to Friday while during the weekends it used to air in the 9 pm slot. The broadcaster changed its timing strategy by airing the property during the 9 pm slot throughout the week, on popular demand.

As a result, the other existing drama series ‘Roop – Mard Ka Naya Swaroop’ got shifted to 10 pm slot, followed by ‘Bepannah’ at 10.30 pm and ‘Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka’ at 11 pm.

Star Plus’ ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’ (KZK) returned after a gap of more than 10 years. The show produced by Balaji Telefilms went on air from 25 September airing at 8 pm in the weekdays. The romantic saga featured Erica Fernandes in the lead role of Prerna, Parth Samthaan portrayed the character of Anurag and actress Hina Khan played the role of Komolika in the show.

Zee TV launched two new shows ‘Guddan Tumse Na Ho Paayega’ and ‘Tujhse Hai Raabta’ from 3 September. The channel replaced ‎Parin Multimedia’s ‘Zindagi Ki Mehek’ with ‘Guddan Tumse Na Ho Paayega’ at 8 pm slot and Rajshri Productions’ ‘Piyaa Albela’ with ‘Tujhse Hai Raabta’ at 8.30 pm.

Helmed by Ved Raj under the brand Shoonya Square, ‘Guddan Tumse Na Ho Paayega’ is a comedy series which narrates the story of a girl who gets married to an elderly man due to her financial circumstances.

On the other hand, ‘Tujhse Hai Raabta’ is a bittersweet relationship between a daughter and step-mother. The girl doesn’t accept her step-mom even though the latter fulfills all her responsibilities.
