Hindi GECs pad up to launch new shows post-IPL
MUMBAI: Even as Indian Premier League (IPL) is two weeks away from conclusion, Hindi GECs have started chalking out plans for the post-IPL phase. The Hindi GECs generally lie low during the two-month IPL window as the tournament draws a bulk of the viewership share, particularly during the prime-time slot.
With the tournament now entering the play-off stage, the Hindi GECs have lined up a slew of new shows to garner eyeballs. At last count, 13 fiction and non-fiction shows are scheduled for launch towards the last week of May and June. The IPL grand finale will be played on 27 May.
The prime-time line-up of Hindi GECs such as Colors, Zee TV, Star Plus, Star Bharat, &TV, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and SAB TV will see a change with the launch of new shows. Some of the underperforming shows will also face the axe.
Viacom 18’s Hindi GEC Colors is leading from the front as far as new show launches are concerned. The channel, which has been battling Zee TV for the top position in urban HSM, will be launching five new shows spanning across genres like fantasy, drama, suspense-thriller and a dance reality format.
