EMMC plans to install monitoring facility for 100 TV channels, 150 DTH platform services in FY19
MUMBAI: The Electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMMC), the content monitoring arm of the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB), plans to install logging and monitoring facility for 100 private satellite TV channels and 150 direct to home (DTH) platform services channels during FY18-19.
Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) has been assigned to implement the project on turnkey basis. The EMMC has got a budgetary support of Rs 18.1 crore for fiscal 2018-19.
In order to optimally utilise the allocations, the EMMC has proposed to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BECIL.
The EMMC has allocated Rs. 2 crore for purchase of Machinery & Equipment for enhancing monitoring capacity by 100 TV channels and logging and monitoring facility for 150 DTH channels.
According to Demand for Grants report by the Standing Committee on Information Technology, the EMMC had spent Rs 5.4 crore of the Rs 10 crore allocation for FY17-18 till December. In 2016-17, the EMMC had utilised Rs. 8.73 crore of the Rs. 8.90 crore that was allocated by the government.
During the 12th plan period, EMMC shifted to its own building at Soochna Bhawan. The centre has been equipped with state of art technology to record and monitor around 900 channels. EMMC records and monitor the private satellite TV channels permitted by the MIB.
In addition to this, EMMC has been providing/sending real-time information and SMS alerts to I&B ministry, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Cabinet Secretariat, the ministry of home affairs (MHA) and other ministry/departments on need-based and information basis.
During election time, EMMC monitors channels and provide information to Election Commission of India (ECI) with a dedicated team of monitors / senior monitors and senior officers.
