DSport head TS Panesar calls it quits after 1.5-year stint

MUMBAI: TS Panesar, the head of Discovery Communications India’s sports channels DSport, has called it quits. Panesar’s exit comes even as Discovery is yet to appoint an India head.

Discovery Communications India SVP and GM South Asia Karan Bajaj had quit the organisation in September 2018 after a two-year stint. Bajaj will be with Discovery until his successor is found.

Panesar had joined as the head of DSport in Ju ly 2017. He will remain with Discovery till the end of January.

As DSport head, Panesar was responsible for content acquisition and monetisation. During his stint, the channel had made several key acquisitions like the Nidahas Trophy, South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship, Poker Sports League, and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) among others.

In May, Discovery had appointed Aidem as the ad monetisation agency for DSport in India.

Prior to DSport, Panesar was the CEO of Hathway Cable and Datacom’s video business. Before Hathway, he was with Star India as EVP distribution handling direct to home (DTH) and digital addressable system (DAS) markets.

Apart from Hathway and Star, Panesar had a long stint at Star Sports (formerly ESPN Star Sports) having spent more than 17 years with the sports network.
