DQE concludes broadcast deal with Viacom18 for ‘Jungle Book’
MUMBAI: Media conglomerate Viacom18 has acquired the broadcast rights for DQ Entertainment’s ‘Jungle Book’ Season 1, 2, & 3 and Jungle Book 60 min TV feature film for India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Maldives.
The animation, gaming, production, and distribution company has also concluded a broadcast deal with Spectrum Films for Peter Pan TV Series Season I, Lassie, Iron Man Season II and Casper Season I in Sri Lanka.
It also entered into a deal with Escalade for Jungle Book Safari in Malaysian region. It has sold the broadcast rights for Robin Hood Season I & II and Peter Pan Season I & II in the month of December to Inter Speed Digital Solutions for Bangladesh region.
TV 5 Monde has picked up Jungle Book I & II for France territory.
For the quarter ended 31 December, DQE has narrowed its consolidated net loss to Rs 27.8 crore compared to Rs 50 crore. Revenue remained flat at Rs 20.5 crore. Expenses jumped to Rs 53.4 crore compared to Rs 43.4 crore.
The company noted that slowly and steadily the business divisions of Animation, Licensing & Distribution, and Digital Media is improving and the impact of the same will be visible from the 4th quarter of this financial year.
The company also said that it has a good order book of production projects. Apart from three own IP projects, currently the following TV series’ are in production: Miles from tomorrow land – Season II & Ill, Puppy Dog Tales- Season 2, Mickey Mouse and the Roadster Racers (MRR) -Season II, Miraculous Lady Bug- Season Ill, Super 4- Season 2, and ZakStorm – Season 1.
The following projects will commence productions in the next couple of months: 7D & Me Season 2, Power Players- Season 1, Pio the Chick TV series- Season 1, and Doc McStuffins- Season 5.
In terms of licensing and distribution, Jungle Book- Season Ill, Robinhood- Season II and The Psammy show (earlier known as 5 & It) are in production and the first milestone deliveries will begin from March onwards. The Company will get the inflows based on milestone deliveries from the contracts already executed for all these three projects.
Its first Digital 90 Min movie, “Peterpan- The quest for Never Book” has been completed and is very well received by global distributors. The Company has signed and sealed with seven distributors for the Middle East & North African Countries, China, Turkey, North America, Latin American Countries, Vietnam, and Japan region.
Negotiation with other distributors for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (GAS Territories), and Sri Lanka are in advanced stages of negotiations. Many more deals for the other European territories are expected to get closed at the European Film Market which is currently ongoing.
All the distributors with whom the deal is being finalised will be paying a Minimum Guarantee (MG) amount which will be received prior to the movie release. The movie is expected to be released worldwide by June/July 2018. We are confident that Peter Pan Feature Film will surely capture hearts around the world.
Another own new IP “Toadlly Awesome” is in the development stage and will go into production soon.
DQE’s Distribution and licensing division is continuing to negotiate new licensing deals across its library of IPs. Numerous deals were entered into during the period resulting in increased revenue from licensing and distribution.
