Doordarshan partners with Amazon India to launch online souvenir store

MUMBAI: Public broadcaster Doordarshan has launched an online souvenir store in partnership with Amazon India. DD Souvenir gallery was started on 21 June 2018. The online store will sell branded articles like cups, T-shirts and water bottles.

The development makes Doordarshan India’s first broadcaster to start a souvenir store. The pubcaster believes that the online souvenir store will not only strengthen the relationship with viewers but also help in establishing Doordarshan brand value.

It also noted that the souvenirs will also introduce DD’s memorabilia to the younger generation as the channel of India. DD also believes that the online souvenir store will help to re-establish the brand value of Doordarshan as ‘The channel of India’.

Doordarshan is the first broadcaster to have its souvenirs available online. The current line of merchandise that is available at include T-shirts, coffee mugs and sippers are available with the tagline ‘I am in your DNA, I am your Doordarshan’.

Speaking at the launch, Prasar Bharati chairman A Surya Prakash said, “This is one of the brilliant initiatives that Doordarshan has undertaken to connect with not only its loyal audience of generations who have stood by DD over the years but also the youth of India to continue being a part of the Public Broadcaster’s family.”

Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati said, “Connecting with new-age digital India is the vision for Doordarshan as they are the torch bearers of tomorrow’s growth in our country. This initiative helps us establish the fact that Doordarshan has been the channel of, by and for the citizens of India and they can further nurture this relationship through the souvenirs.”

Doordarshan DG Supriya Sahu stated, “Several initiatives have been taken to re-establish brand Doordarshan. It is indeed heartwarming to announce one more such initiative, the launch of DD’s Souvenir Store at Amazon India’s marketplace.”

Speaking about the launch, Amazon India VP seller services Gopal Pillai said, “At Amazon, the selection is one of the key pillars of our strategy. We are committed to ensuring that Amazon offers the widest and the most unique selection to our customers. Today, we are very excited to launch Doordarshan souvenirs on our marketplace.”
