Dish TV CMD Jawahar Goel takes charge as Editor-in-Chief of Zee Media network
MUMBAI: Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL), the news broadcasting arm of Essel Group, has appointed Jawahar Goel as the Editor in Chief of the news network comprising 16 national and regional news channels.
Currently, Goel serves as the chairman and managing director of Essel Group’s direct to home (DTH) arm Dish TV.
All Editors of Zee Media channels will report in to Goel. Confirming his appointment, Goel said, “Yes, I will take charge as editor-in-chief from today. It is an additional responsibility as I will also continue to play my role as Managing Director of DTH.”
Answering to a query of will there be any changes in editorial team post his appointment, Goel further said, “There won’t be any changes as we have best people in the team. I’ll be meeting the team today to discuss further.”
The announcement of his appointment was sent through an official email from Essel Group Chairman Subhash Chandra’s office to top executives of the conglomerate.
Goel, who is the younger brother of Essel Group chairman Subhash Chandra, was instrumental in aiding Subhash Chandra in the setting up and evolution of Essel Group of companies, which involves holdings as diverse as amusement parks to news media to the education sector.
“As an organisation, we should also be watchful of our costs and therefore as part of the ongoing budgeting exercise, he would also be responsible for driving cost optimization in the network in order to create a more lean and efficient organization which is nimble on its feet and create value for its shareholders,” Chandra said in the internal mail to employees.
Goel was appointed as the Managing Director of the Company on January 6, 2007. He has been actively involved in the creation and expansion of the Essel Group of Companies. He has been instrumental in establishing Dish TV as a prominent brand with India’s most modern and advanced technological infrastructure.
