BSNL upgrades existing broadband plans as Jio GigaFiber launch nears
MUMBAI: State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is ringfencing its broadband customers from being poached by Mukesh Ambani’s Jio GigaFiber by upgrading its existing plans.
The telecom operator has doled out additional benefits for users by way of higher FUP limit for four broadband plans without changing the price.
BSNL has increased FUP limit and speed to 500 GB and 50 Mbps for its Fibro Combo ULD 3999 plan. The plan earlier offered 300 GB data at 20 Mbps speed.
The Fibro Combo ULD 5999 will offer 1000GB of FUP data per month at 60Mbps speed as against 400GB of FUP data at 30Mbps it was offering earlier.
The two plans offer unlimited data at 4 Mbps speed once the entire data has been exhausted.
BSNL is offering a whopping 2 TB of FUP data at 80 Mbps speed as part of Fibro Combo ULD 9999 plan. Earlier, this plan offered data with 600GB FUP limit at 50Mbps. NThis plan also offers unlimited data and the post FUP speed gets reduced to 6 Mbps.
BSNL has also revamped its Fibro Combo ULD 16999 plan by offering 3TB of FUP data at 100 Mbps speed. This plan earlier offered 800GB of FUP data at 100 Mbps. Similar to the other offers, this plan also provides unlimited data, but the post FUP speed gets reduced to 4 Mbps.
According to an India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) report, the launch Jio GigaFiber has the potential to disrupt the retail broadband segment and open up new digital avenues for the enterprise broadband segment.
Jio GigaFiber project will commercially roll-out from 15 August across 1100 cities. Jio GigaFiber will offer 1 Gbps download speeds and 100Mbps upload speed.
Jio GigaFiber will have its own special router called Jio GigaRouter besides a set top box (STB) Jio GigaTV that will allow customers to place voice calls, and allow for media sharing as well. The company had also announced that Jio GigaTV will provide 600 TV channels.
