BARC week 46: Ayodhya verdict leads to spike in news viewership

MUMBAI: The Supreme Court‘s pronouncement of Ayodhya verdict on 9th November has led to a humongous growth in the weekly impressions of the English and Hindi news channels.

As per BARC data for week 46, the top 5 Hindi news channels saw their weekly impressions crossing the 10 crore mark with Aaj Tak recording 17.8 crore impressions. In urban + rural HSM, ABP News has replaced India TV in the second position. India TV and News18 India have slipped to the third and fourth positions respectively.

ABP News has moved to the second position in both urban as well as rural markets. In urban HSM, ABP News has jumped to the second spot while News18 India and India TV have slipped to the third and fourth positions respectively.

In rural HSM, Republic Bharat has jumped to the third position pushing India TV and News18 India down to the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The top 5 English news channels also witnessed a spike in their weekly impressions. The pecking order, though, remained unchanged.

Both CNBC TV18 and ET Now saw a drop in their weekly impressions.

In the Hindi business news genre, CNBC Awaaz‘s weekly impressions dropped while that of Zee Business saw an increase.
