BARC week 21: English, Hindi news channels see massive spike in viewership due to counting day

MUMBAI: The weekly impressions of English and Hindi news channels have seen a massive spike in week 21 of BARC India ratings due to the coverage of 2019 general election counting day.

Among Hindi news channels, Aaj Tak has more than doubled its weekly impressions to 33.58 crore compared to 14.19 crore impressions in week 20 in urban + rural HSM.

ABP News has jumped to the second position from the fourth spot. The channel’s weekly impressions have jumped to 24.36 crore as against 10 crore impressions in the previous week.

India TV, Republic Bharat, and News18 India have dropped by a rank each. Their weekly impressions have jumped to 19.3 crore, 18.8 crore, and 18.6 crore respectively.

In urban HSM, Aaj Tak’s impressions have increased to 17.5 crore from 7.5 crore in the previous week. ABP News has re-entered the top 5 at the second position with 12.34 crore impressions.

India TV, News18 India, and Republic Bharat have dropped to the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively while Zee News has moved out of the top 5 list. The three channels have also almost doubled their weekly impressions.

Aaj Tak’s impressions have surged to 16 crore in rural HSM from 6.6 crore in the previous week. ABP News has grabbed the second position in the rural market as well.

Republic Bharat has slipped to the third position while India TV has dropped to the fifth spot. News18 India has moved up to the fourth spot.

The top 5 English news channels have also almost doubled their weekly impressions. Republic TV’s weekly impressions have jumped to 1.4 million in week 21 from 0.6 million.

Times Now has dislodged DD India to grab the second spot with 1.05 million impressions. DD India’s impressions jumped to 0.8 million followed by India Today Television (0.8 million), and CNN-News18 at (0.7 million).

The English and Hindi business news channels have also witnessed a spike in their weekly impressions.

ET Now has seen the biggest jump from 53,000 impressions in week 20 to 193,000 impressions in week 21. CNBCTV18’s weekly impressions have risen to 366,000 impressions from 298,000. BTVI has dropped to the third spot while its impressions have jumped to 166,000 from 131,000.

CNBC Awaaz’s impressions increased to 2.86 million from 2.16 million while that of Zee Business was up at 1.09 million from 0.7 million in week 20.
