‘Avengers Infinity War’ collects $630 mn to create global box office record

MUMBAI: Disney keeps having massive success at the box office. Its new superhero movie ‘Avengers Infinity War’ has created an opening box office record of $630 million, as per comScore’s official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of 29 April.

In the US it made $250 million which is also a record. The top three biggest openings in the US of all time are all Disney movies. Nine out of the top 10 biggest openings in the US of all time are Disney movies.

The previous record holder for the global all-time opening was Universal’s ‘Fate Of The Furious’.

Media reports indicate that in India ‘Avengers Infinity War’ made Rs. 120.90 crore gross and Rs. 94.30 crore net a record for Hollywood in the country. It left the previous opening weekend Hollywood box office record holder ‘Jungle Book’ far behind which was less than Rs. 50 crore. This was also a Disney movie.

comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “Marvel Studios adds more records to their incredible box office resume as Disney’s release of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ obliterates expectations and posts the highest global opening weekend of all-time of $630.0 million while simultaneously setting a new North American opening weekend record of $250 million. Notably, the China-based drama ‘Us And Them’ earned an impressive $88.795 million in its debut in the home market.”
