Airtel Digital TV to remove Star channels from its subscription packs
MUMBAI: Direct to home (DTH) operator Bharti Telemedia, which offers service under the Airtel Digital TV brand, will temporarily discontinue Star India channels from its subscription packs from 8 March as it has not been to come at mutually acceptable terms with the broadcaster.
On 16 February, Star had issued a disconnection notice to Bharti Telemedia for non-signing of the subscription agreement, non-payment of subscription fees and non-submission of subscribers reports.
“Due to failure to arrive at mutually acceptable terms with Star India Pvt. Ltd, with effect from 8th March 2018 all STAR network channels will be temporarily discontinued from your packs,” the DTH operator informed its subscribers.
The DTH operator is offering 22 popular Star channels across genre and languages free of cost to eligible customers for a period of one month as part of its promotion. To receive these channels subscribers will have to give a missed call on designated numbers.
The promotion offer will be valid only if the channel was earlier available as part of the base pack of the subscribers. The channels on offer include Star Plus, Star Bharat, Star Gold, Star World, Star Movies, Star Pravah, Star Jalsha, Star Vijay, Asianet, Star Maa, Star Suvarna in addition to Star Sports channels.
It stated that the promotional offer can be extended or withdrawn at Bharti Telemedia’s discretion without any further communication.
Furthermore, the DTH operator has put 11 channels Movies OK, Star Sports 2, Star Sports Select 2, Fox Life, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo People, Baby TV, Channel V, Vijay Super, Asianet Plus, and Star Suvarna Plus on a la carte basis. Sports channels are available at a la carte price of Rs 20 while other channels are priced at Rs 10.
For HD channel subscribers, the DTH operator said it will offer appropriate replacement/refunds for the 23 HD channels. The HD channels are available on a la carte basis with sports channels priced at Rs 50 and non-sports channels at Rs 35.
Airtel has also replaced 11 Star channels with other channels. Movies OK has been replaced with B4U Movies, Channel V has been replaced with Wow Music, Star Sports 2 has been replaced with Fitness Studio, Star Suvarna Plus with Saral Jeevan, Vijay Super with Super TV, Asianet Plus with Darshana TV, Nat Geo Wild with Care World, Fox Life with Astrovaani & Nazrana, Star Sports Select 2 with Sadabahar hitz, Nat Geo People with Comedy Galli, Baby TV with iKids.
The DTH operator is offering Living Foodz HD, &Prive HD, Discovery Jeet HD, DSport HD, and Disney International HD as a replacement for Star’s HD channels. For the remaining Star HD channels, it will offer a proportionate refund to the subscribers.
It further stated that the amount of refund on a proportionate basis in the subscription charges, on account of removal of a channel from a subscription package, shall be calculated by dividing the amount of subscription charges for the original subscription package by the number of channels included in the original package.
