Airtel Digital TV Q4 EBITDA remains flat as rev declines

MUMBAI: Bharti Airtel’s direct to home (DTH) arm Bharti Telemedia’s EBITDA for the quarter ended 31 March has remained flat at Rs 370.1 crore as against Rs 370.8 crore in the trailing quarter ended 31 December. EBITDA margin also remained flat at 38.6% compared to 38.5% a quarter ago.

The company offers DTH service under Airtel Digital TV brand.

The company’s EBIT for the quarter was Rs 153.8 crore as against Rs 150 crore. Revenue declined to Rs 958.5 crore compared to Rs 964.2 crore in the trailing quarter.

During the current quarter, the company incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 206.4 crore compared to Rs 236 crore. The resultant operating free cash flow during the quarter was at Rs 163.7 crore compared to Rs 134.8 crore.

Net customer additions during the quarter were 230,000 compared to 416,000 in the trailing quarter. The company closed the fiscal with 14.2 million customers.

ARPU for the quarter declined to Rs 228 as compared to Rs 233. Monthly churn stood at 1.1% as against 1.2% in the previous quarter.

On a year on year basis, EBITDA was up 16% at Rs 1422.6 crore compared to Rs 1221.9 crore in the previous fiscal. EBITDA margin was 37.9% compared to 35.6%. EBIT jumped 48% to Rs 530.6 crore compared to Rs 357.7 crore.

Revenue jumped 10% to Rs 3757 crore as against Rs 3420.6 crore. Operating cash flow was up 9% at Rs 394.9 crore compared to Rs 361.1 crore. Capex deployment was up 9% at Rs 394.9 crore as against Rs 361.1 crore.

Total customers increased 10.6% to 14.16 million from 12.8 million. ARPU remained flat at Rs 228.

The DTH operator offers a total of 649 channels including 75 HD channels, 5 international channels, and 4 interactive services.
