Aired PM Modi’s ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ address due to its high news value, DD to EC
MUMBAI: Public broadcaster Doordarshan has responded to the Election Commission’s query over running Narendra Modi’s 1.24-hour public address ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ on 31st March. According to a report The Economic Times, the public broadcaster has stated that it was run on the grounds of its high news value.
While seeking response from MIB over the licensing of NaMo TV, EC also questioned DD News for telecasting an hour-long live broadcast of PM Modi’s public address ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ on March 31.
EC is also learnt to have asked DD for complete information on coverage of various political parties and prominent leaders to assess whether there was any truth in Congress’ allegations of preferential treatment to the ruling BJP.
DD News is in the process of collecting this information, it is learnt, and is confident that the data will reflect its holistic approach to news coverage, sources told ET.
Recently it was informed by MIB that NaMo TV is not a licenced channel but a direct-to-home (DTH) advertisement platform and the advertisement cost is incurred by the BJP.
