ABP Ganga to air 10 hours of live reporting every day: Avinash Pandey
MUMBAI: ABP News Network’s new Hindi news channel ABP Ganga targeted at Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will air 10 hours of live reporting every day. The channel aims to reach 20 million viewers in UP and Uttarakhand.
The new channel, which went on-air from today, has recruited 100 editorial staff to report on the state-related issues. Raj Kishor Tiwari has been appointed as the editor of the channel and will be reporting to ABP News Network CEO Avinash Pandey.
Revealing the reason behind the launch of a new channel, Pandey said, “The channel is meant for the audience of UP and Uttarakhand. It would have different content compared to the channels available in these two states. It would be more live, more broad-based, it would cater to people by showing content and programming on startups, innovation or ideas of winning the new world. It would not only focus on political issues, it would also report fearlessly on what’s going on in the state and different needs of the society.”
The free to air (FTA) channel is available on platforms like Tata Sky, DD Free Dish, Jio TV.
With ABP Ganga, the company is looking to tap the potential of the two markets, which already contribute sizeable viewership to the news network. Pandey said, “UP is a very large state, if we look at the viewership contribution from that state, it’s quite significant and there is a need for differentiated content especially for this market, considering the priority of the society and the massive size of the population. That was the core reason behind launching this channel and we are targeting to 20 million audiences in our network.”
The channel will air 10 hours of on-ground live reporting from across Uttarakhand and UP. “We will be doing more on-field live reporting. The channel will have less of studio-based show. We have over 100 editorial staff who will cater to this. We are planning to make different content on political and governance aspiration for common people. Raj Kishor Tiwari will be doing the flagship show at 5 pm called Raajneeti,” Pandey asserted.
Currently, ABP Gangan has more than seven minutes of advertising. Some of the key advertisers include Bandhan Bank, Pantajali, Havels, and Nerolac in addition to local advertisers and political ads.
Pandey is hopeful that the channel will be channel profitable in less than five years. He said, “The channel doesn’t become profitable in one year, it takes five years to become profitable but we will be profitable in less than that time.”
Apart from setting a new benchmark in regional news television, ABP Ganga will also benefit from, and carry forward the strong & rich legacy in principled journalism of the ABP News Network which has market-leading channels in 3 other languages, namely, Bengali (Ananda), Marathi (Majha) & Gujarati (Asmita), apart from its national Hindi flagship ABP News.
The tagline of the channel is “Khabar Aapki, Zubaan Aapki”, which creates the perfect connect with the people of this region, offering them relevant local news with national standards and aims to relate with the people of these states, along with their sentiments & issues.
The programming lineup is focused on delivering a true ground connect with the viewers, apart from having as part of its lineup debates, election special shows and prime time news bulletins. Under the election umbrella brand ‘2019 ka Agneepath’, the programming will comprise of shows like “Sinhasan 80”, “Charcha Garam Hai” and “On Ground Conclaves”.
