A peek into Discovery Jeet’s content slate
MUMBAI: Discovery Communications India’s male-skewed Hindi GEC Discovery Jeet has an ambitious content slate as it looks to launch early next year.
As per available details, Discovery Jeet is working on at least eight original shows namely ‘Swami Baba Ramdev: The Untold Story’, ‘Saragarhi – India’s Bravest Day’, ‘Gabru: The Birth of Hip Hop’, ‘Gangs of Mumbai’, ‘Anjaan’, ‘Khan No 1’, ‘Mere Papa Hero Hiralal’ and ‘Shaadi Jasoos’.
Targeted at 15+ male audiences, the GEC will have 200 hours of fresh content. It is planning to launch have at least five hours of fresh programming every day.
The channel will be launched with the biopic series of ‘Baba Ramdev entitled ‘Swami Baba Ramdev: The Untold Story’.
Aired from Monday-Friday, the show will be a 65-episode scripted biopic series tracing Baba Ramdev’s inspirational journey from a life of anonymity to national icon, international cult figure and now a business mogul. The show will be produced by Ajay Devgn Productions and Watergate Productions.
‘Saragarhi – India’s Bravest Day’ is a large-scale scripted action drama series of one of the greatest, yet largely uncelebrated, last stands in Indian military history. Produced by Contiloe Pictures, the series will feature Mohit Raina, Sameeksha and Mukul Dev in lead roles.
The channel will also have a show on the Rap and Hip Hop revolution ‘Gabru: The Birth of Hip Hop’. The story of the show will revolve around the lives of three protagonists Gaurav Singh aka MC Money, Bani Khurana aka Queen B and Sarfaraz Khan aka ‘Surf’.
Produced by Still and Still Media Collective, the story revolves around the trials and tribulations of a Punjabi Hip Hop King, who at the peak of his career faces a threat from a rival rapper, who also happens to be his ex-flame. The show will star Amol Parashar as MC Money, Harleen Sethi as Queen B and Chaitanya Sharma as Surf.
Anjaan, which is being produced by Lotus Talkies, will be a crime show with a horror twist. ‘Khan No.1’ is being produced by Rohan Sippy under the banner Black Swan. The series will have a central character of Khan who would be the cop handling various crime cases.
Ashvini Yardi is producing an emotional saga ‘Mere Papa Hero Hiralal’ under her banner Vini Yard Films. It is the story of a single father and his eight years old daughter. The show will feature Sarwar Ahuja, child artist Riva Arora and Krishna Bisht in the pivotal role.
‘Shaadi Jasoos’ is produced by DJ’s A Creative Unit and is expected to feature Sidharth Bhardwaj, Akash Pratap Singh, newbies Samar Vermani and Srishti Ganguli Rindani in the lead role. The show will revolve around investigative officers who would check on the family background before a marriage.
‘Gangs of Mumbai’ is a scripted series on the thriving underworld in India.
Discovery Jeet is also planning to have a separate content slate for weekends which will include a differentiated comedy and a crime show. It is also considering reality shows which will also fit into its philosophy of ‘underdog winning’.
Discovery Jeet, which will replace Investigation Discovery, will be a pay channel with multiple regional language feeds. The channel will be Discovery’s first ever Hindi GEC in the Indian market.
