9 crore TV homes have migrated to new pricing regime: TRAI chairman
MUMBAI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that nine crore out of 17 crore TV homes have migrated to the new pricing regime. Of the nine crore TV homes that have migrated 6.5 crore are cable TV homes while 2.5 crore are direct to home (DTH) homes.
“The speed (of onboarding) has increased as per our data and we expect the rest of the people to also register their choice of channels soon,” TRAI chairman RS Sharma has been quoted as saying by newswire PTI.
Sharma further stated that the number of DTH homes migrating to the new regime will increase once the long-term packs expire. “We are guiding and helping the operators where ever required and are calling regular meetings to clarify matters,” he added.
He also said that the TRAI will take up a massive campaign on consumer awareness, through social media, print, advertisements, jingles and other programmes.
Last week, the authority had said that the discount or waive off on network capacity fee (NCF) for the second or additional TV connection should be uniform in the target market area of respective distribution platform operator (DPO).
Without divulging any details, Sharma said that the TRAI has received responses from three operators on the special schemes for multi-connection homes, but at this point, does not feel the need to intervene into the matter.
