MUMBAI: Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has acquired the rights to BBC2 drama ‘The Boy With The Topknot’ from distributor Endemol Shine International.
Apart from India, the deal also covers Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The drama will air on ZEEL’s premium channel &Privé HD. The deal was negotiated by Endemol Shine International’s executive director for Asia Rashmi Bajpai.
The show, which has been produced by Parti Productions and Endemol-owned Kudos, is based on the novel by journalist Sathnam Sanghera. It is based on Sanghera’s childhood as a second-generation Indian in Britain.
Endemol Shine International is the international distributor for the drama.
“It is a powerful drama which explores the complexities of relationships and will surely strike a chord with the Indian audience. This feature compels audiences to feel the other side of human emotions with its relatable storyline,” said ZEEL business cluster head for premium and FTA GEC channels Aparna Bhosle.
ZEEL has been bullish on British dramas to grow its English entertainment business. In June 2017, the broadcaster had launched ‘BBC First’ block on Zee Cafe comprising curated drama shows.
