ZEE creates global digital outfit Z5X, restructures digital biz
MUMBAI: ZEE has incorporated a global digital organisation named Z5X that is to become the hub of all the digital properties.
Chamli Tennakoon has been appointed chief executive officer of the new organisation, in addition to his existing role of chief digital officer, Essel Group.
Among many other changes, dittoTV business head Archana Anand is being made digital head of Z5X (India). Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has digital properties that include over-the-top (OTT) service dittoTV and advertising-led video-on-demand (VoD) platform OZEE.
“In order to maintain our momentum, we must accelerate the digital transformation of our business and ensure that we create the right organisational structure in place to strengthen our global business. Against this backdrop, we are making changes to create a global digital organisation structure,” ZEEL CEO of global business Amit Goenka stated in an internal email to employees.
“Z5X’s global structure will help the company in leveraging digital expertise in serving corporate clients to provide integrated solutions across a wide range of Zee products,” Goenka added.
Tennakoon will be supported by COO (media) and COO (non-media) and centre of expertise, which will include chief product officer, chief revenue officer, chief technology officer (Ravie Palaniandi), chief innovation officer and VP social.
The chief product officer will be supported by head (PMO) Pooja Kapoor and VP (UI/UX).
The chief revenue officer will be supported by VP (ad sales) and VP (business development).
Z5X chief technology officer Ravie Palaniandi will be supported by head of CDN Unmesh Khadilkar, head of technology Prahlad Adhikari, senior manager infrastructure Sanjeev Thakur and head of system administration.
The chief innovation officer will be supported by a team of software engineers and will be based in San Francisco, which will serve as an innovation lab for the company’s products.
dittoTV business head Archana Anand is being appointed as digital head Z5X (India). She will directly report to COO (Media) with an interim reporting to CEO Tennakoon until a COO Media is recruited.
Anand will be supported by head of product development, head of business development & customer acquisition (Aabhar Dadhich), lead customer engagement & user retention (Kaveri Das), head of marketing, head of social and data analyst.
The head of product development will be supported by the existing product team of Nagraj Bhatt, Ankur Yadav, Jignesh Mistry and Aditya Rao.
The head of marketing will be supported by the existing team of Shubha Kohli, marketing and public relations. The head of social will be supported by the existing team led by Abhishek Gaurav.
The data analyst will be supported by the existing team of Sudarshan Rane (MIS) and Sanjay Bhaskare (MIS).
Aparna Acharekar is appointed head of digital content (South Asia) and will directly report to president content Rajeev Kheror with a functional reporting to Regional Business heads Z5X.
The head of ad sales will directly report to Zee Unimedia business head, with a functional reporting to business head Z5X India (Archana Anand).
The central functions will be a shared competence centre for all digital business in India.
Head of finance (Digital India) Vijay Vaishnav will directly report to financial controller of international business Deepesh Malhotra.
Head HR (Digital India) Albino Mascarenhas will directly report to Head HR, international business Rahul Bharti.
The commercial team will continue to report to Manpreet Burmah.
Vishal Malhotra, who was leading the ditto, OZEE and MPN business in India, has been appointed digital head for the Americas, which includes Z5X and other digital properties in the region. He will directly report to the Z5X CEO.
Vishal will be supported by head product (Americas), head digital content (Americas), head digital marketing (Americas), head ad sales (Americas), legal counsel (Americas) and Kevin, Pugh, Data Analyst (Americas).
The head of product (Americas) will be supported by director of UI/UX Shahab Bokahari and director of project management Alia Sheikh.
The head of digital (Americas) will be supported by content managers for Teal Mango (Trisha Sakhuja), DLife and Zee Living.
The head of digital marketing (Americas) will be supported by associate director social, associate director SEO and associate director creative services.
The head of ad sales (Americas) will be supported by ad operations manager and associate director of business development.
Z5X-Middle East & Africa
Nadine Samra has been appointed as digital head Z5X (Middle East and Africa). She will directly report to COO (Media) with an interim reporting to the Z5X CEO (until the company recruits COO of media).
